Method — Screening-level estimate
This is a coverage-per-head and spacing rule-of-thumb takeoff. It is NOT a code-compliance calculation and must not be presented as one.
Every result below is produced by the same engineering engine that feeds the High-Rise reference project, so a quantity taken from this page and a quantity taken from the workflow cannot disagree.
Governing Formula
N_heads = ceil(A / a_head) Where:
-
A= Protected floor area [m2] -
a= Area served per head [m2/head]
Derived Equations:
L_riser = levels x storey height N_hydrant = ceil(perimeter / spacing) Assumptions & Limitations
- Not a code-compliance calculation: no occupancy classification, travel distance, exit width, compartmentation or escape-stair design.
- No fire pump, fire water storage or smoke control - see the Fire Water & Egress calculator.
- Hydrant layout requires the building perimeter; a land boundary gives a materially wrong count.
