Why This Project Matters
The plant is part of Chennai’s deliberate, phased urban desalination programme — following the 100 MLD Minjur (2010) and 100 MLD Nemmeli (2013) facilities — that is moving the city toward around 750 MLD of desalinated supply, demonstrating how coastal megacities use membrane capacity to stabilise water security between monsoon seasons.
