CIP Tank Sizing Calculator
The cleaning volume comes from the protocol, not from the element. It changes with the hold-up volume, with whether the skid recirculates or runs once through, and with the fouling you are cleaning — so it is your input. One detail catches people out: the heel is the volume the tank permanently keeps between cleanings, so the tank has to be larger than the cleaning volume, not smaller.
Design parameters
The element count, the protocol volume per element and both cleaning fractions are required. A neutral stage is only reported if you state one, because it is not part of every protocol.
Basis and limits
- Alkaline, acid and neutral cleaning chemistries are separate requirements for an RO membrane and are reported separately, because they need separate tanks and separate make-up.
- No pH target, cycle time or concentration default is supplied. Those come from the element manufacturer's cleaning protocol for the element and the fouling identified.
- Exceeding the membrane's temperature or circulation time damages the membrane, so no cycle duration is reported here.
- The permeate flush at the end of a sequence needs its own volume and is not included in these figures.
